It was normal december Bangalore morning when we sat for the trip. It was around 6am on 23rd dec '06 when we 6 of us zoomed our way out of Bangalore in Sumo Victa. In no time we were racing on Bangalore-Mangalore highway.
After good 100km of drive, we halted to stuff our stomachs. Sravabelagola was our next sojourn. It was around 10am with sun angeling up. It was an half-an hour of step trek. On the top was Gomteshwara's statue, world's largest a-piece wonder. We headed our way back with 4-5 photo-sessions. We got treated by Rajasthani food after a wait for nearly 1 hour. At around 2pm, we made a move to our next temple town,Heleibidu in Hasan district. It was an architectral delight which left all of us spellbounded. Detailing is something beyond comprehension, said one of my friend,a civil engineer from IIT Kanpur. We finally made our way to the hills and reached Kemmannagundi after slight confusion.
The place was darker and colder than Bangalore. We immediately started our night hold hunt in a place which was all green and deviod of cemented buildings. To our luck,we got a lounge at Raj Bhavan, one of the government owned lodges. But our life got bit difficult when we found people disturbing us right in the midnight. We somehow managed to sleep that night after a bit of fight and anger.
The next day,we woke up early in search of a perfect sun-rise. But clouds and mist didn't let us find that pleasure. Loosing no time,we had breakfast in canteen and haeaded towards our trek. It was indeed the best part of our trip with perfect trekking trails welcoming us to reach heights. It was around 10:30am when we descened down. After some confusion and a bit of enquiry, we had to hire a jeep to reach Hebbe Falls as the route was simply not fit for Sumo. Fall was a pleasure to be in. Water was icy cold. It was time to say bye to beautiful green locales as we made our way to Mangalore. Road to Mangalore was pathetic which delayed our journey by 2 hours. With few minutes to X-Mas day,we found ourselves in this south karnataka's port city. But our unplannedness made us spend 1 hour hunting for accomodation. Finally we managed to get a decent hotel in city center.
Next day was reserved for the beach. Penambur beach was something which we didn't liked to go in. So we decided to go Summer Sands, next to Ullal beach in South Mangalore. It was great fun with sands and saltness. 'Go gaga' was the order of the moment, setting our moods upright to bid adieu to this wonderful X-mas weekend.
